On 30 April, the EC published the 2018 Pensions Adequacy Report (http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=738&langId=en&pubId=8084&furtherPubs=yes).
The Report published every 3 years and prepared jointly by the Social Protection Committee (SCP) and the European Commission (DG EMPL) analyses the adequacy of current and future pensions – ie. how they help maintain the income of EU citizens for the duration of their retirement and prevent old-age poverty – depending on the form of employment and the gender.
The report highlights that Member States pay more and more attention to sustainable, adequate pensions in their reforms. However, further measures will be needed in the future.
The report is shared in 2 volumes:
- Volume I (http://ec.europa.eu/social/BlobServlet?docId=19417&langId=en) contains a comparative analysis of pension adequacy in the EU- 28. It examines the current living standards of older people and how they are shaped by pension systems, proceeds with an overview of recent pension reforms and analyses the main challenges to the adequacy of future pensions and ways of tackling them.
- Volume II (http://ec.europa.eu/social/BlobServlet?docId=19418&langId=en) provides a detailed description of the pension system and pension adequacy in each of the 28 Member States.
