On 16 January, EIOPA issued a public call for evidence to collect information from market participants on the integration of sustainability risks and factors Solvency II. The call for evidence relates to the EC call for opinion, which requests EIOPA to deliver an opinion on sustainability within Solvency II by 30 September 2019.
Through the call for evidence, EIOPA will analyse how sustainability risks and factors affect (re)insurers’ investments and underwriting practice, with a focus on climate change. To support EIOPA’s analysis, National Competent Authorities will collect information from individual undertakings within their jurisdiction, via a separate request for information.
Market participants are invited to submit comments via an online survey by Friday, 8 March 2019.
Based on the feedback received, EIOPA will prepare the draft opinion for consultation during the second half of 2019.
